Mountain Dew Lantern Attempt #1

David got this e-mail that has a video of guys making a giant glow stick out of mountain dew, baking soda, and peroxide. Here is...
Attempt #1.
Hypothesis: We are capable of following simple directions and therefore acheive similar results.
Data:

Results: Dew fizzes when you add baking soda. Hands smell of vinegar after reaction even though vinegar is not used. The only light we acheived was from my nifty flip flops that light up in the dark.

Conclusion: We did not acheive similar results therefore we cannot follow simple directions. Although we did not get the desired effect we did learn that Dew fizzes when you add baking soda. After further investigation it was discovered that contamination by saliva took place, and could have hampered the results. It was also discovered that the experiment was conducted 30 minutes after opening the said Dew, so if carbonation plays a main factor in the reaction, this may have had a negative effect. It was ALSO discovered that 1/4" of Dew was to be left in the bottle, not 1/4 of the bottle. Our new hypothesis states that if we weren't ding dongs and listened carefully to the directions, the reaction may be duplicated.

LOL! Good to know! We are going to try this, too! Maybe we'll borrow a video camera and tape our results! (If anyone asks what we want for Christmas, its a video camera!)

Sounds funny, but it seems you have a missing picture. You will have to add it so I can see.
